Current City Construction Projects

City Project Title Project Description Project Status
Jolly Giant Dam Retrofit The Jolly Giant Dam Retrofit project is a high-priority storm water project that greatly reduces the potential for structure failure and also removes the dam from the regulatory purview of the California Department of Water Resources, Division of Dam Safety, resulting in long-term cost savings.

The goal of the project is to construct a bypass spillway and a lower pipe outlet so that in the event of plugging of the outlet, water can safely pass through as well as around the structure. The dam is located on Road No. 8 in the Arcata Community Forest east of Humboldt State University.

Please follow all safety directions and expect trail diversions around the dam on Road 8 in the Forest.
