Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary Amphitheater Construction Construction has begun on an outdoor amphitheater near the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation High Rock crew is hauling gravel with wheelbarrows to the site along the east and south sides of the Log Pond Loop Trail. This trail remains open for public use.

Humboldt Bay Trail North Construction
Construction of the City of Arcata’s portion of the Humboldt Bay Trail from Samoa Boulevard through the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary and along the scenic shoreline along Highway 101 to just south of the Bayside cutoff. The southern trail endpoint will transition onto the shoulder of Highway 101 south of Bayside Cutoff, until the remaining segment, Humboldt Bay Trail South, is constructed. The city estimates that trail construction will be complete by fall 2017.

  • The Butcher's Slough footbridge will be closed while McCullough Construction builds new bridge footings through the end of June 2017. 
  • On South I Street, motorists are asked to slow down and walkers and bikers are asked to exercise caution as heavy equipment will frequently be on the road. 
  • Walkers can access the oxidation ponds loop from South G Street by walking past the construction staging area at the City’s corporation yard. Please use caution if heavy equipment is in operation and wait for workers to see you before passing by.

PG&E System Upgrades PG&E upgrades a portion of the natural gas distribution system serving homes and businesses in the 11th Street neighborhood from mid-June through the end of July 2017, weather permitting. The work area will be on 11th Street, between D and Union Streets.

Local PG&E representatives will contact affected residents and homeowners prior to start of work.

On the days of scheduled work, please follow all directions and traffic control devices within the project area.

Sunny Brae and South H Street Improvements UPDATE:  Buttermilk Lane will be closed for paving on Saturday, August 26 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be no vehicle access during this time. Residents are asked to move vehicles they intend to use prior to 7 a.m. on Saturday. Please follow all detour instructions.

Sewer lateral replacement is complete. RAO Construction is beginning sidewalk infill and replacement of non-ADA driveways along Buttermilk Lane and are expected to move to South H Street after August 26.

As part of its 2016 Street Improvements Project, the City will be making street and sewer improvements on Buttermilk Lane between Bayside Road and Margaret Lane and on South H Street between Samoa Boulevard and South G Street.

Construction is scheduled to be complete by the end of October 2017.
