Historic Preservation Month in Arcata

Creamery Building for Web

Here are ways you can be involved in the rich history of Arcata's architecture and historic preservation.

  • Take a walk along Rails with Trails, and check out the signs describing the history of railroads.
  • Head to the Farmer's Market on May 6th and 20th, and stop by the table staffed by Arcata's Historic Landmark Committee members and the Historical Sites Society of Arcata.  They will have information, and be available to discuss historic preservation in Arcata.
  • Attend a webinar about the impacts of historic preservation on housing affordability:  Thursday, May 11th from 11:00 to 12:30 in the Council Chambers at City Hall.  This free event is co-sponsored by the Cit of Arcata and Alex Stillman.
  • Join Historian Fran Beatty at the Arcata Playhouse in the historic Creamery Building on Sunday, May 21st at 1:00, where you can hear about the history of the California Central Creamery Building as it celebrates its 100th anniversary.
  • Check out the window and Creamery District displays in the lobby of City Hall.
