The City of Arcata is in the process of creating a Residential Rental Inspection Program (RRIP) to proactively address the issue of substandard long-term rental properties that create threats to the tenant’s safety and the integrity of the building.
As part of the process, City staff recently introduced a Residential Rental Unit Inspection Program Ordinance (Ordinance 1552) at the City Council meeting held on Wednesday, September 15. The ordinance was reviewed by the City Council again on Wednesday, October 20, and the Council directed City staff to create a community working group to receive more input and address concerns surrounding the ordinance.
The Building & Engineering Department is currently seeking applicants to join the RRIP Working Group. Volunteer participants in this group will work closely with community members and City staff to provide suggestions on how to best tailor the ordinance to meet the needs of the community.
Tenants, property managers and property owners with rental units located within Arcata are highly encouraged to apply.
Applications must be submitted by 4:30 PM on Wednesday, December 15 to be considered.
A application is available in English here. Please click here to find the application in Spanish.
Applications may be emailed to RRIP@cityofarcata.org.
Applications may also be picked up or dropped off in-person in the Building & Engineering Department office at Arcata City Hall, located at 736 F Street, between 9 AM and 5 PM Monday through Friday.
