[ARCHIVED] Arcata Library Construction Underway

Construction for the Arcata Library Improvement Project will be underway the week of Monay, Oct. 21!

Construction at the Arcata Library is being undertaken by contractor Adams Commercial General Contracting and is focused on enhancing accessibility throughout the library building including the restrooms, emergency egress, entryway and work counters. The project is a result of decades of collaboration between the City of Arcata and the County of Humboldt.

Since the completion of the Arcata Branch Library construction in 1984, Humboldt County has provided public library services within the building while the City has covered building maintenance and utilities. In 2020-2021 the City and County completed an ADA Access Compliance Assessment which guided priorities for a grant proposal and subsequent development of project plans. The City received a grant from the California State Library Building Forward Grant program in 2022 and worked with the County of Humboldt and Whitchurch Engineering to prepare construction-ready plans for these accessibility improvements.

The Library will remain open during construction with a temporary alternate entrance. Construction for these new improvements is scheduled to be completed by the end of December 2024. Please follow all signs for temporary entrances and exits to the building along with any other notices during construction.
