[ARCHIVED] The Joint Slurry Seal Project 2025 is Underway

The Arcata Joint Slurry Seal Project 2025 to repair and maintain Arcata’s streets began on Monday, July 28 and will continue through Wednesday, Aug. 20.

Adding a slurry seal is maintenance measure that helps extend street usability while maintaining their safety, helping improve skid resistance, fix cracks and more. This maintenance saves money by preserving roads for longer, meaning full repaving, a more expensive process, isn't necessary as often.

For the 2025 project, work will take place along Giuntoli Lane from near the U.S. 101 highway northbound onramp to Boyd Road, along H Street from Sunset Avenue in the north to 12 Street in the south, along Eighth Street from K to H streets and along 10 Street from N to K streets.

Project construction will run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on some days the contractor will extend work hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On the days of scheduled work, citizens are urged to follow all directions and traffic control devices within the project area.

The City of Arcata has contracted with Intermountain Slurry Seal, a subsidiary of Granite Construction, for this project. The work will involve the removal of street marking and striping, application of a slurry seal, and re-application of street markings and striping.

If problems are encountered with this project, please contact Intermountain Slurry Seal at (775) 498-0470 or the City of Arcata at (707) 825-2150. Updates on construction progress and project plans can be viewed at cityofarcata.org.
