At a special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 11, the Arcata City Council appointed Kimberley White as Mayor and Stacy Atkins-Salazar as Vice-Mayor.
During the meeting, several community members and other councilmembers took the time to thank outgoing mayor, Alex Stillman, for her numerous years of dedication and service to the City of Arcata and to congratulate new Mayor White on her appointment to the position.
The City’s Municipal Code requires the Arcata City Council to select the mayor and vice-mayor annually at a special meeting held each December. Both Mayor White and Vice-Mayor Atkins-Salazar will serve in their new roles for one year. The mayor of Arcata’s duties includes presiding at Council meetings, representing the Council at community events and performing other ministerial duties. The vice-mayor will preside in the event of the mayor’s absence.
The next Arcata City Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 7. For more information on how to view the meeting or make public comment, visit cityofarcata.org.
