ARE ARCATA’S STREETS AND SIDEWALKS ACCESSIBLE?

The City of Arcata is in the process of completing an update to its Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan. The goal of the updated plan is to outline how the City will transition toward full compliance with ADA requirements. This involves identifying barriers to accessibility, then developing and implementing solutions that will remove those barriers and help everyone use Arcata’s streets, sidewalks and public buildings safely.

The plan will be discussed one more time at the Transportation Safety Committee meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, in the Arcata City Council Chamber. Everyone is invited to this meeting to help identify existing accessibility barriers in the City as well as to comment on the plan itself. Anyone unable to attend the meeting can email their comments to engineering@cityofarcata.org or call Engineering Technician Jess Clifton at 707-825-2175. After incorporating public input the plan will be presented to the Arcata City Council for adoption.

Updates to the ADA Transition Plan public hearing schedule and the draft Transition Plan will be posted on the City’s website.
