We are seeking community members to apply for an open volunteer position on the Planning Commission. The City will be interviewing Planning Commission applicants on Wednesday, May 1 for applications received by Wednesday, April 24.

The Arcata Planning Commission plays a key role in shaping Arcata’s future by acting as a key decision making body for the City. This seven-member Commission has final authority for most planning and physical development permits in the Arcata planning area. All community members who apply to build or develop land in Arcata must have their plans reviewed and approved by this Commission.

Arcata residents and those who live or work within the Arcata planning area are welcome to apply for this open position. Applicants should have interest, knowledge or expertise in all areas of City planning, development and historic preservation. Commissioner duties include advising City Council and City staff on matters pertaining to the planning and development of Arcata and its surrounding areas, and reviewing, approving or denying land use design review applications.

Commissioners are not compensated and must attend two meetings each month which are televised and streamed live online for the public.
