[ARCHIVED] How Low Can We Go? Help Create a Zero Waste Plan

Zero Waste

ZWAP! That's the sound of an environmentally conscientious college town creating a Zero Waste Action Plan (ZWAP). The City of Arcata invites residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations to submit their ideas for long-term goals and specific actions that will reduce the waste generated in Arcata and improve upon its current recycling and composting methods. Arcata’s ZWAP will aim to reduce the amount and toxicity of waste, and to encourage Arcata’s residents and businesses to develop new waste reduction habits. Please provide the City with your ideas for waste reduction in writing on the City's website at www.cityofarcata.org/275/Zero-Waste. Check out the information and links on this webpage for reducing waste, reusing, recycling and composting discarded materials in Arcata.

Zero Waste Humboldt consultants, Maureen Hart and Maggie Gainer, will lead the planning effort this spring. The City intends for its Zero Waste Action Plan to be an easy-to-track set of measurable goals and specific tasks that will guide City government, residents, schools, community groups and businesses year-by-year toward Zero Waste. If your group would like to learn more and has waste reduction suggestions, please for a member of the planning team to meet with you.
