Learn more about sea level rise adaptation efforts in Arcata and help shape the future of wastewater treatment at a community workshop on Thursday, Nov. 14!
The City of Arcata has received technical assistance through the State Water Resources Control Board to conduct a long range Feasibility Study to assess alternatives to prepare the City’s wastewater facilities for future sea level rise and coastal hazards beyond 2055 – the design life of the Phase 1 Arcata Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvement Project currently under construction. Alternative wastewater treatment adaptation may include retreat and relocation strategies, accommodation and/or protection strategies as well as ways to continue beneficial reuse of wastewater in the Arcata environment.
The City of Arcata will host the workshop at the D Street Neighborhood Center, on Thursday, Nov. 14 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. In addition to long range planning for the Arcata Wastewater Treatment Facility, the workshop will also cover the City's efforts to update the Local Coastal Program, develop a Sea Level Rise Risk Assessment and Adaptation Plan and augment the levee around the existing Arcata Wastewater Treatment Facility. Learn about each of these efforts during an open house happening 5:30 – 6 p.m. and then focused presentations 6 – 7 p.m. Active discussions will take place 7 – 8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided to ensure active community participation.
Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) is coordinating the technical assistance with support from GHD Inc.
