[ARCHIVED] Trail Closures in the Community Forest

A segment of the Arcata Ridge Trail within the Samuels Conservation Easement will be closed starting Monday, June 2 for several weeks due to a forest harvest operation being undertaken by the owner of this Conservation Easement property.

Closure signs will be posted during the harvest operation when access along the Ridge Trail is restricted for public safety reasons. Please follow all closure signs to limit your risk of injury.

During the closure, the South Fork Janes Creek Loop Trail will remain open to all trail users for uninterrupted trail access from the Arcata Community Forest West End Road trailhead. After several weeks the forest harvest will shift to be along a portion of the South Fork Janes Creek Loop Trail which will then be closed and the Ridge Trail reopened for trail use. Please follow all signage and use caution when traveling the lower Ridge Trail, which will be shared with forest operation vehicles.

The City of Arcata values its partnerships with private property owners for conservation and public access. The Samuels Conservation Easement, adjacent to the Arcata Tract of the Community Forest, was completed in 2009 to maintain the important conservation values of the property. The City manages public access trails on the property through an Access Management Plan.

For more information on City trail and road closures, please check out the City’s interactive closure map, found at the bottom of the City of Arcata’s Home page under “Trails/Roads Closure Alerts” or at arcg.is/qSOe0.
