This unit’s functions are handled by a Dispatch/Records Supervisor, 4 full-time dispatchers, and 1 part-time dispatcher. The unit is overseen a Lieutenant. The dispatchers play a vital role in the interface between the Department and the citizens of this City. In 2009, Arcata Police Department dispatchers answered 44,548 phone calls (both emergency and non-emergency) and 5,010 911 calls.
Dispatchers perform a wide variety of tasks including:
- Researching and routing requests for information
- Completing records and/or warrants checks for officers and authorized agencies
- Processing and maintaining restraining orders and missing persons information
- Completing a number of different data entry, records management, and administrative duties
