Economic Development Projects

The Redevelopment Agency's goals for economic development include:
  • Improve the local transportation system, consisting of local and arterial streets, parking, and related transit, pedestrian and bicycle facilities
  • Promote a stable, diversified, and expanded economic base
  • Promote improvement of public infrastructure and facilities, such as parks, storm drainage, sewage collection systems, and water distribution systems

Current Economic Development Projects

Arcata Foodworks

The Foodworks Culinary Center includes a fully equipped commercial Community Kitchen that is available for rent by the hour or by the day, the College of the Redwoods Teaching Kitchen and commercial kitchens available as long term rentals.

Samoa Boulevard Gateway

Samoa Boulevard neighborhood serves as a primary gateway for visitors who come to Arcata. The Samoa Boulevard Neighborhood has a number of natural features, functions, and uses that are beneficial to the City of Arcata. These include the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary, McDaniel Slough, a segment of the Arcata Bay trail system, and a portion of the Arcata Bottom, one of Arcata’s important cultural landscapes.

Currently, the City's Public Works Department is having plans reviewed by Caltrans to complete gateway improvements along Samoa Boulevard.

Business Incubator

The City of Arcata Community Development Department has worked with consultants to conduct a targeted industry assessment and analyze the feasibility of developing a business incubator program. The business incubator will be designed to share resources across the Arcata community by means of both physical and virtual presence. It is to offer entrepreneurial opportunities, workforce training, and business network expansion. The final Business Incubator Feasibility Study (PDF) is now available for review.
