The City of Arcata is committed to reducing the community's greenhouse gas emissions associated with global climate change. The amount of energy we use and the source of that energy has an important role in climate change, which is why a community-wide Greenhouse Gas Inventory was developed in 2006, followed by a Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan that identified six action areas to change the way we use energy. Community-wide participation is necessary to achieve the goals and strategies outlined in the plan.
Additionally, the Energy Committee was formed to make recommendations and provide information to the City Council and Commissions regarding energy efficiency, energy conservation and conversion to greener energy sources.
